The Smoky Haze of My Father's Cigar
By Serge Stevens / July 23, 2014

IN TAMPA, FLORIDA, THERE is a neighborhood called Ybor City, which is notable for more than its unusual name. At one time, more than 150 cigar-making businesses called it home.
They’ve all pretty much closed shop over the years, with the exception of the family-owned J.C. Newman Cigar Company, which began rolling cigars in the 1930s. The government is now considering enacting new regulations that may spell the end of this family business. Hearing about it got me thinking about cigars.
